August 19, 2003 - permalink The crowds of shiny mini-vans and SUVS in Monroe park this Sunday meant one thing – VCU is back in session. There were crowds at Target on Sunday – trios of parents and child buying linens and small appliances. Long past my college days, I am slashing away at work and slashing away at the crab grass that has overtaken the sidewalk behind my house. Water BearsI was reading about iron eating microbes on Slashdot and saw a post about water bears, also known as Tardigrada. While water bears cannot live at 121 degrees C, they live in environments from ice caps to tropical oceans. You can even freeze dry them into a state where they can withstand radiation, mineral acids and liquid nitrogen. So do water bears make good pets? Only if you have a microscope. Link-o-ramaI haven't been skimming MetaFilter lately, but it's had some gems recently. Lapdance IslandWhat is it about a tropical island inhabited by lap dancers that appeals to you most? Please, please don't vote me off. Conjugal
