The crowds of shiny mini-vans and SUVS in Monroe park this Sunday meant one thing – VCU is back in session. There were crowds at Target on Sunday – trios of parents and child buying linens and small appliances. Long past my college days, I am slashing away at work and slashing away at the crab grass that has overtaken the sidewalk behind my house.

Water Bears

I was reading about iron eating microbes on Slashdot and saw a post about water bears, also known as Tardigrada. While water bears cannot live at 121 degrees C, they live in environments from ice caps to tropical oceans. You can even freeze dry them into a state where they can withstand radiation, mineral acids and liquid nitrogen. So do water bears make good pets? Only if you have a microscope.

Conjugal Bliss Visit

After they tried to close the bar at her reception, this bride got a little...agitated. Fortunately, the South Windor police were able to provide a wedding photographer as well as honeymoon accomodations for the bride.

For Travellers, Truckers, Taxi Drivers and Toothache

He served a king, he served Satan, and then he served Christ. St. Christopher has two histories – one his encounter carrying a small child across a river, the other as a missionary in Syria. In any event, he's the patron saint of travellers – a helpful saint for yours truly this week.
