June 29, 2003 - permalink Internet Radio on My FM DialIf you can accept monoaural AM and are satisfied with only six hours of interesting music a week, there's always the Bopst show in Richmond. Or you can buy one of these puppies and plug it into the speaker plugs on your PC. The iRock is a small (pager-sized) FM transmitter that plugs into a speaker jack and transmits a low-powerered FM signal. You can then tune any FM radio to the frequency that the iRock uses. The iRock was originally designed for use with an MP3 player, however, it works great for internet radio. I just tuned my internet radio software to WFMU and tuned my stereo to the preset frequency it was using. This morning, for breaksfast, I listened to reggae; right now, I'm enjoying a nice selection of real classic rock before I go mow my lawn. When it comes time for a little weeding, I'll move the boombox onto the back porch – the iRock seems to be able to reach most of the my house and the back porch. I can't remember the last time I heard “Mr. Blue Sky” or “Louis Quatorze” on the radio. |
