Angels on My Street

The filmmakers for "Iron-Jawed Angels" paid a visit to Oregon Hill this week. They cordoned off my street to shoot an exterior scene at the Pine Street Baptist Church. I was minorly inconvenienced; I had to park on the 300 block of Pine Street. The exterior shot was extras filling into the church as period automobiles drove by. Unfortunate for the crew, the fall foliage is already gone. They had to rig up boughs of orange leaves to frame the shot. To see more, check out the most recent pencam picture gallery. Regrettably, no celebrities were spotted.

Thrifting with the Gamine

Among the more interesting local coverage of the filming was Hilary Swank's visits to Halycon on Cary Street. Apparently, after Ms. Swank's first visit, the press called the store's owner to find out if Swank dickered on price – a perfectly acceptable practice when thrift-shopping. I'm not sure who the reporter was, but I can't wait until the headline – Woman Relaxes by Shopping for Clothes – mmm, riveting.
