Born and Baked in the USA

I was perusing the selection at the snack machine and saw these - 2 oz. of sweet patriotic delicacies. They're made by Biscomerica in California, the same bakery that makes the Knott's Berry Farm cookies. Click here for a better look at these cookies brimming with sugary goodness and national pride.

Makes No Sense At All

I never knew Leroy Cousins name until this morning. However, there were many days when I heard his saxophone as I carried my groceries out to my car in the Ukrop's parking lot. I remember putting a dollar in his case one day when he was playing "America the Beautiful" outside the Cary Court shopping center. He's been one of those steady fixtures of Carytown, like the Superchess players and the street vendors outside of Plan 9. I'll never see or hear him again; last night he was shot outside his home.

Noelle Bush Soon to Experiece Compassionate Conservatism

This comment on Plastic.com seems to neatly sum up the Bush clan's current approach to personal responsibility. Yes, it's sad that she has been in rehab for her drug problem. It's sadder still that she'll still be in rehab for her third offense, while a million other drug offenders don't share her luck or last name.

So, Today is Your Birthday?

Both the Onion and the Richmond Times Dispatch ran articles about people whose birthday was today. Is it possible that the Times Dispatch and the Onion are actually thinking the same things? Unlikely. Neither one of the stories is the original: CNN ran a piece on people whose birthday falls on September 11th last month. There's even a message board for these chagrined Virgos.

A picture is worth a thousand words, no?

Pictures of What You Eat

BoingBoing has links to these pictures of school lunches in Harrisonburg, PA.

Of course, for grown-ups, the equivalent to cafeteria food is airline food. I apologize for the lateness of getting this link up – it's managed to make it's way from Metafilter all the way to NPR last week. The meme is no longer so fresh, but then again neither is airline food. Reheat and enjoy.

Pictures from Last Year

Xeni's guest blog on BoingBoing has a link to this on-going exhibition of pictures from New York. Hereisnewyork has pictures of everything from rescue dogs to memorials. Avoid your television today.
